Wealthy plastic surgeon Gong Ki Tae is a successful and happy bachelor who does not want to find himself a wife. He believes that his life is perfectly planned, and being single is the only option he accept. However, his family is badgering him to marry. In an effort to get his parents off his back about the constant string of blind dates and marriage prospects, Ki Tae purposely brings Joo Jang Mi home to meet his parents posing as his girlfriend, certain that they'll never approve of her. Edit Translation. MDL v5.
I also can't help laughing every time Ki-tae looks up and instantly deflates when Se Ah enters a room, and she just kind of comes in with that sort of half resigned, hey whaddaya gonna do look - I swear that must have happened like ten times by now! I was actually going to say something about this! I think it's hilarious how at least once per episode lately, there will be a scene where Ki-tae is either waiting for Jang-mi or for patients etc. Like, it's happened so many times in a row now and for some reason I find it really funny.
Chandler: wow Chandler dear. I still can't get over it It's good that both don't beat around the bush to get what they want hahah. It's nice to see something different for a change in korean dramas! They kill me every episode but esp this time when they coincide with GT's dance moves. And oh the dancing! From both GT and HD!! So cute! GT really sees how JM's is looked down on by his family. And also he finally as well as me sees how his parents relationship truly is as well as his dad.
So skeazy. Its way worst that he got married with adultery preplanned. From their open dialogue to their cute little moments to the mom walking in to a pretty evident scene.
And with the cherry on top JM walks out in GT's t-shirt JM's dad left with side stitches. I really thought it would be a cute heartfelt letter! But I loved that it wasn't! The crazed awkward laughing scene at the restaurant was such an obvious moment where JM was trying to be "cool" and failing miserably. These were just some highlights of mine but it was such a fun hour watch!! So sad i have to wait a week for more of these two and to see how exactly his mom handles the situation she walked into!!
But, if 20 years from now, I walk into his home and see women's clothes strewn all over, I'm turning around and running right back out and pretending I don't know anything.
News & Articles
What mom stands around and waits to see who comes out of the room so that everyone can die of awkwardness? Boundaries, lady! That's why you and your son have so many issues as it is For the first time ever I'm watching, not one but two shows that have stayed funny even through the angsty parts. This show is so super hilarious. Why is that man allowed to walk around being so very beautiful? That's a crime, right? I realize that I've never actually watched any of his shows, though? Can he act?
The little snippet I saw here was not very promising. Oh sorry, meant to mention, the other one is Fated To Love You. Even in the really sad episodes a couple of weeks ago they managed to introduce some levity and they bounced back quickly after some necessary angst. I'm the Mom of a grown daughter, and I would never just stroll into her apartment without calling, let alone knocking! So rude. And potentially awkward And if you did walk in someone else's house and there were intimates strewn across the floor, the least you could do would be to call out so that they have warning that someone is there so they don't do something like wander out with no panties on in front of their secret boyfriend's mother.
This is the first one that I thought actually stayed light and funny throughout except for that one episode, but I can forgive because it went right back to the funny. Even when it has me feeling sorry for the leads, I'm still laughing. This is good. I'm stoked for the last two episodes now, and I just love that we finally get to see Jang-mi and Ki-tae be boyfriend and girlfriend.
When it's just the two of them on screen, it feels like a completely different show. I enjoy watching their honesty with each other and their cuteness, of course. They have been such an awesome pairing. I agree with you on Se-ah and Yeo-reum not really getting their comeuppance. So they are just two gorgeous people who meddle in multiple people's lives and they get to be nice, caring friends at the end? If that's what the writer wanted from the beginning, for everyone to be nice and cheerful with each other, then why bother making those two characters go down the road of desperation in the first place?
It's like the writer couldn't make up their mind and just tried things. That is my only gripe with this show now. I'm sad Mom was again lied to just when she was warming up to Jang-mi again.
I can't even fault her for her impending coldness because it is justifiable this time around. I'm waiting for this drama to wrap up nicely and give all the characters I like and love their deserved ending. Yesss ive commented on ep 13 about how i cant believe that were given such a sweetheart version of yeoreum just an episode after he deliberately hugged jangmi just for gitae's mom to see!
Like, as a viewer i cant believe he could work with jangmi with no other motive and in ep 13 i thought he wasnt gonna keep his word and seduce jangmi but this ep he was such an angel.

Doesnt make sense! Se ah is still acceptable bc technically she was helping gitae and she doesnt care about jangmi. But yeoreum? I know people change but at least make it like hoon dongs progression. I can't help but wonder what comeuppance HYR deserved in all honesty.
I would hardly call what he did meddling. He was courting, rightfully so, a single woman who had shown an interest in him.
Marriage Not Dating - Funny moments
Yes, hugging her deliberately in front of Gi Tae's mom was a bit a douchey, but it was also a human thing to do. He didn't premeditate it, it was a split second decision and a really desperate one at that. The girl he had been courting and was showing a legitimate interest in and up until that point was doing the same, suddenly says she is no longer interested after he opened up to her. Yeah I can imagine in the grand total of 30 seconds after hearing that he was like "Oh that's cool, no biggie".
Why such a double standard?
I don't see how he is any better? Just because he ended up with her? It' not like HYR was fabricating the truth. They had been dating. The situation was already there, he just bought it to light in a ill manner.
I actually enjoyed the fact that the writer took this route. Sometimes in life you got to learn to bow out gracefully and I like that eventually both second leads came to that. They learnt they can be bitter and manipulative and alienate the people they care about just because a person does not reciprocate ones feelings does not make this null and voi or they can accept it and support them. God isn't it nice to see people being mature?
I think it was appropriate character growth and not so out of the realm of possibility. Too many people seem to have the lead couple bias. Plus why the need for blood? The lead couple is happy and amazing. I think losing the ones they care about is comeuppance enough.
Why the need for more suffering? Lol sometimes I read these comments and I am like have we been watching the same show. He has always been cool and casual about him and JJM's relationship, no matter how emotionally invested he was. He is going to be cool and casual about if after.
Because thats the kind of person he has, is and will be. How many guys would not make a huge fuss about someone they are basically dating kissing another guy. Not too many. How many guys would be like ,"Yeah go ahead and be fake engaged with little or no explanation to how its beneficial to you or me, sure thing sweetpea".
She said he liked him he took her word for it. She said he was no longer interested he had his moment and carried on. I think the reason why he acted like that, because well know HYR has huge abandonment issues. In that moment I think he was confronted with that and so he reacted harshly. I think he has been given a personality of his own and the show has been consistent with that.
He doesn't want to be lonely and gets attached to things, but he also knows life goes on. He learnt that after his mum left, he practiced it after him JJM were over. He is not going to stomp his feet and scream and make a huge deal about it. He has always had a moral compass, returning the money after JJM found it about him spying, paying for the truffles, generally using only expired ingredients and paying GGT back for his loan.
He is not going to try and hit on someone who he respects and admires like GGT's woman. It's not in his nature. Correct me if I am missing something, I rarely rewatch episodes, but I don't think HYR's character lacks progression at all.
She said she was no longer interested he had his moment and carried on. I read the recaps and the subsequent comments which left me baffled. What did Yeo reum do that was so wrong? Are we watching the same drama, here? If anything, Jang mi and Yeo reum were the ones legitimately dating, and I can 't count the number of times Gi Tae sabotaged their dates and even kissed Joo Jang mi when she was still dating someone else.
The fact that Jang mi and Gi Tae ended up together doesn't excuse his actions. If you want to get technical about it, you could even accuse Jang mi of two timing her boyfriend Yeo reum, who was being remarkably patient with Jang mi's and Gi Tae's 'fake' relationship. If anything, the ones who need their comeuppance in this drama are the lead couple. Don't get me wrong, I ship Gi Tae with Jang mi more than anything and think they make a cute and lovely couple.
But I'm not wearing any blinders or developing selective amnesia just because they are the main leads who everyone wants to end up together! I really like the way you lay down the way and why YR acted the way he did things. How did Hoon Dong, the boss, end up peeling onion for Yeo-reum's restaurant? I think he's bored at his own restaurant.
I think it was more to gossip to jm about how kt is doin since. Which is a type of reversal in of itself. Whereas the women's friendship has the element of men's in most shows. HD, clearly cares about his friend a lot, even accepting that his friend might be gay, even after dating all those women. Also, dancing with him. Anyone else notice that her bra left on the couch was white but she was clearly wearing a black bra - you could see it under her white shirt I didn't notice the bra but I counted how many underwear and shorts there were and I kept seeing one too many pair.
Well, it wasn't Jang Mi's first nite at Gi Tae's. Can we assume that she had spare clothing stashed there? I would think the black bra was much series then the one on the couch. I love the resolution to last episode's cliffhanger. He didn't pout nor beg; just simply asked, "Whoever said anything about marriage? I thought the events would unfold with Ki Tae accepting Se Ah's job offer; then because his clinic closed down, Hoon Dong's restaurant would have no customers, so he would go work at the bar; then because Se Ah's hospital is close to the bar, they would all hang out there like Cheers.
I felt proud seeing him study because he finally stopped waiting around for Jang Mi while she played aloof. I cheered at his snide remark about her always being sleepy every time she is around him. Is their bar 24 hours? Her constant falling asleep was so inconsiderate of his feelings.
I could feel their awkward silences through my computer screen. Couples usually run out of things to talk about years into their relationship, but they just started dating. That is not a good sign. Thank goodness they were back to their Chatty Cathy selves after dropping the "cool" act.
I don't see anything wrong with Mom catching them, other than the embarrassment for both parties. But this is a good way for her to realize they are together and are serious with each other. Where in the world did Hyun Hee get the money to open a bar? Thanks for the recap, LollyPip! I think her constant falling asleep was partly meant to show how comfortable she was around him.
I don't really think she was that inconsiderate a little bit, yes because she obviously treasured the moments she got to sleep on his shoulder and even sited it as her reason for being able to work so hard. Also I don't think they necessarily ran out of things to say, but that they simply had to make it through that awkward friends-to-lovers transition. When you think about it, they've never really gone through the "how do I impress this person" stage because they moved directly to the "I can be myself around this person" stage as soon as they met.
So now that they're dating, it's almost like they felt the need to go back to the stage they missed because now they care what the other person thinks.
It actually shows how much they've come to respect each other. They just needed to mess up a bit first to see that the reason they wanted to be together in the first place was because they had a relationship in which they could be themselves.
I like this one because it's essential in order to make a relationship works in the long run. This is what makes their relationship extra special and meaningful. Even when she intends to appear good in front of him, she can't help but shamelessly fell asleep on their date. Granted she's just too tired working at the restaurant which is fine an excuse.
Though I find it absurd and frustrating, I like it that she can do that comfortably around him. Oh, no - it's accurate. Opening your own business - especially a restaurant where you're running at full speed for hours at a time - is exhausting and stressful. Until you've toughened up a bit, you're going to be doing nothing but working and sleeping.
I think the stress of opening her own business and the fact that she was so comfortable with Gi Tae was why she kept falling asleep on him. As for her mom, frankly, I don't think she cares where Jang mi spends the night. Remember what Jang mi told Gi Tae, both parents were so busy working and spend their nights in seperate rooms so when she woke up she hardly ever saw her parents, they were like strangers living in the same house.
It was only when Gi Tae was with them, that they made an effort to appear as a family. She probably didn't even notice that Jang mi sleeps elsewhere. As for Jang mi, the atmosphere at home must be toxic, and she would probably like to avoid that as much as possible.
The thing is, she could have chosen napping during those times, but instead she chose going on dates with him. And what's a boyfriend for if not for lending a shoulder in time of need? I do understand her reasons for falling asleep and Ki Tae was more than sympathetic, but I still felt hurt on his behalf. To compare, when students fall asleep in class, there are a number of reasons homework, studying, part-time jobs, partyingbut to the professor, they can't help feeling it is because their lecture is boring.
On the park bench, she fell asleep in the middle of his sentence, so niggling at the back of his mind would be he is not interesting enough to keep her awake. He didn't say "you're always sleepy whenever you see me" maliciously he said it in a nice tonebut I liked it because it showed he noticed and he was bothered by it. The ost my han groo was such a pleasant surprise.
From now on. Kdrama is changed forever. Coz that's what we want. Oh, and this particular mother-in-law is so human, I just want to hug her.
Marriage not dating 02 vostfr
I say do away with them all. It seems like the writer is panicking that YR got lots of haters due to his jealous antics so the sudden transition is a way to win back our affection for him but not me because I never care about him anyway. Also what's so wrong with second leads being evil all the way to the end?
It's not like it never happens in real life. In real live normal people give up their unrequited loves pretty fast and move on - lots of other fish in the ocean. If they don't, it's called obsessive tendencies and they ether become addicts, seek a therapist or, unfortunately, buy a gun and show up at the ex's door. All rolled into one with a complicated revenge plan. U can most likely check them on the mnd wiki page or Asianwiki. The show is killing it for the paid cable ratings but I think it still falls short to reply That 3.
I can't count how many times I've replayed this episode. I love the honest conversation and all conversation Jang Mi-Gi tae had. They looked so real and it reflected how a normal couple looked like. How come Yeon Woo Jin's voice is so soothing every time he speak? Love this show to pieces. HD and GT's interactions always kill me. HD had a douchy past but deep down he's just a kind hearted manchild.
Their friendship is so endearing because both are honest to each other and understand each others weaknesses. Everyone is finally on the hoon train with me. I like that even though he looks ridiculous he still plays out his roll. HD is the best comic relief in a kdrama in a long time. Seriously that actor and Yeon Woo Jim have the best reaction expressions! That coupled with the sound effects make this drama so fun to watch.
Total WWE fan here. That "you can't see me" thing was a reference to John Cena, and I just love it when K-dramas make references to things I know and love here in the U.
That was a totally cute scene. If looks could kill - Han Yeo Reum would be dead!! Those side eyes he was getting from Mama Gong when she visited the restaurant were lethal. She most definitely is NOT a fan! And neither am I! I thought he was a turd for all his interactions with my favourite couple - from him conceitedly informing Jang Mi that girls usually ask for him and not Ho Doong at the restaurant 1st episode up to wheedling a bunking arrangement with Jang Mi after being kicked out from the restaurant and everything else beyond.
He progressed into a low-down turd with that intentional hug in front of Gi Tae's mom, calculated to draw bad blood between Jang Mi and Mom without any benefit to anyone, himself included, with the fall out rippling through both families leaving heartaches everywhere. I assume this was product placement same as the billboard for Restylane that is crowding his desk.
Ugh, PPLs. They make me laugh. As do integral scenes in dramas where they force the actors to speak English. I thought the cleaning device was hilarious! She got a smooth skin from it, that's some considerate bf He was speaking mostly Korean in Potato Star. But he was playing a foreigner so his character had an accent and would often mix words up. I'm getting a very Coffee Princey vibe from this show, especially these last few episodes.
They remind me of when Han-kyul and Eun-chan finally start dating and then the whole I want to be a woman worthy of you business came up. Also, the leads are so relaxed with one another it also feels like Coffee Prince. Oh yeah totally agree I also got coffee Prince vibes coz of how comfortable and relaxed the leads are together.
Thank you for what you wrote about the second leads because I completely agree. I don't applaud all the writer's choices for their characters, but I don't feel like they simply went from Bad to Good, especially Yeo-reum.
The one bad thing he did the hug was his breaking point and an understandable one considering the fact that he had to watch the girl he was dating fall for someone else right in front of him.
He felt bad about being petty in that moment and has since backed off. He's probably helping now because he feels bad about what he did.
I agree about Se-ah too, while still thinking that her character should have been written waaaay differently. I agree with your comments on Yeo-reum, not so much on Se-ah's. I think she has finally come to terms that she can't coerce Ki-tae away from Jang-mi but that doesn't mean to me that she's back to being a supportive friend. I'm not sure if she ever WAS a real "friend. Right now I see her actions as continuing to be manipulative and opportunistic, just not in the same blatant way.
I think she's gone back to hanging back and wait for the first sign of trouble from Ki-tae's relationship to try to weasel her way in. The easiest way to do that is to stay close and oh! How lucky for her! Ki-tae's clinic is doing poorly and it's already been established that her dad has wanted Ki-tae to work for him.
I think she MIGHT have felt something resembling shame after she laid everything out to Ki-tae and he still rejected her but since she never truly seem to be remorseful of her spiral into insanity I guess that's the Catch, you can't be crazy if you recognize yourself to be crazy?
I don't buy that she's repented and just being a good friend now. As a person who really thought Se Ah was the craziest second lead female ever with the sperm thing, I agree with you. I actually liked what they did with her character because what makes me crazy about these types of second female leads is that they make them so crazy and desperate that I don't understand them. Se Ah in beautiful, rich, successful, and smart. This is true for almost every second female lead like her. I have never understood how we are supposed to believe that women like them consistently fall a part forever when a man they love leaves them.
She did her bit and took a ride on the crazy train. Who doesn't after a break up? She makes her last stance and then she releases him. The two of them breaking up was not only good for Gi tae but robably good for her, too, in the long run. She has the potential not to be crazy, but she would have stayed that way if her tactics had worked. She is a smart woman all the advice she gives to Gi tae is spot onso I am happy to not see another smart remember she is a doctor, too fall apart permanently.
Now it is time for Gi tae's mom to get a divorce! I think part of the crazy is not unrealistic for her. She realized she needed to back off, but she's been there for years. And when you hang onto something and wait for it for years, letting go takes a little bit of crazy, not unlike.
She waited and waited and then watched it all fall apart in just a matter of weeks. Even the crazy sperm thing was part keeping a connection and hoping it turns into something more, and part keeping at least some parting gift of the person she loved. It's not like the leads who have just met someone and become inexplicably obsessed with making them theirs.
I think those kinds of leads are mostly chalked up to women with such huge superiority complexes that losing to anyone they think is inferior is just impossible to let slide. Wow, I ended up with so many cut off sentences.
I meant "her not letting go so easily is not unlike the lead's parents. Each pair has been together so long that even though it's basically been over for years the death throes are still ugly. I found it quite realistic. It's just a the whites of her eyes and it brought a very natural felt to those scenes. I give her props cause I can't fake that I've really enjoyed Jang-mi and Ki-tae these past two episodes. Up until this week I felt like the show hadn't given me enough reasons to root for this pairing except for the fact that I was "supposed to.
Thank you! Finally I can enthusiastically root for these guys! Nothing is sexier than knowing your partner wants it as much as you! My only real complaint about the recap is you bunching Se-ah and Yeo-reum together as the confusing "Bad-guys turned Good-guys. There was no reason to believe that except for dramaland's trustworthy ability to make important events happen coincidentally at the same time.
Se-ah is just crazy times and she's honestly just a scary, scary crazy person - I think she's not become nice, I think she just still being manipulative and opportunistic to get close to Ki-tae. Yeo-reum, on the other hand, has made a lot of mistakes but at the end of the day I've never doubted that he's always felt affection towards Jang-mi after getting to know her and the same regarding Ki-tae. He had a moment of selfishness in front Ki-tae's mom but I think that by now he's realized it's game over.
The three of them became a little family while the two boys lived together so it makes sense he wants to take care of his family, even if it's not what he might want for himself. Can you tell me guys how can I get over with this drama? It's ending next week and as much as I want to see a happy ending, I also don't want to let go my nemo couple yet. I'm practically obsessed that I stalk all blog sites where this is recapped, videos on yt, tweets abt it and forums.
Good thing there would be a tvN awards by the end of the year, I'm excited to have my feed of Jang Mi and Gi Tae again :. Yeo-reum gave up somewhere after Jang Mi smacked down boundaries on his butt. After the hug, they had that falling out.

And to reverse expectations, the writer let the characters do their own thing. That included making Yeo Reum stand on his own two feet. That was her moment of change. In another words, the writer chose self-respect for the secondary leads over hanging on indefinitely, which is what real people do. You can see that was the theme of the last few episodes, because at the top, it played it for drama, but when you got there, the change in music and acting They were not the same cuts you found that the scene was not so dramatic, and it was more about self-respect than it was about drama and conflict.
Preserving the veneer. The writer has been doing that a lot throughout the series, playing with the drama tropes and doing reversals. For example, JM says she doesn't want to be a Cinderella in this episode. KT is actually shown working and working hard No telescopes-and the writer has made a point of it that they met up after he works or on weekends-such as when JM had to make pancakes and he couldn't show up to rescue her as the drama trope called for.
Instead of the drama lovey-dovey scenes, you see JM sleeping on all of the dates. Even the last few previews have been playing with the expectation of the viewers to be to that stereotypical drama standard and then pulled a reversal by showing they had recut everything to be different.
Last episode they pulled a "Let's set up Big misunderstanding" and it turned on its head and became a confession. So, this time the secondary leads get self-respect, but it's admittedly a subtle hand the writer pulled. I also thought the first time I watched this episode. The fact she wasn't uptight over it, echoed the words she said later about leaning on him.
Also, it was a reversal of a type as well, because you expect lovey dovey scenes now that they are together, but instead, she's falling asleep, which adds a bit of undercutting and realism. The beginning scene seems to remind us that what seems to be the surface isn't the truth. So the secondary leads choosing self respect not only follows their character traits, Though sometimes the I gotcha in the series leaves me groaning a little.
It's one thing to reverse expectations, but then it's another to completely do something so unexpected that it makes the viewer wonder when and where the characters got personality transplants. I feel like that was what happened. I like the point you said about how Se-ah and Yeo-reum chose self-respect and -preservation. That makes a lot of sense and fits with their initial characterizations.
The problem is that the transition between the two sides was lost. One episode, Se-ah's a raging lunatic, the next she is back to being Ki-tae's best friend. One episode, Yeo-reum pulls a dick move, the next he and Jang-mi are co-owning a restaurant. It's fine if they are nice now, but for me, I would've just liked a scene where they realized they did wrong and apologized to the people they wronged. Something as simple as that would've made all this cordiality in this episode that more believable.
But because that didn't happen, I'm left to wonder why. The point about this episode is a cool relationship. And thats what make this drama so appealing, because they skip all the cliches and cheesy lines. In YeoRum case,Jang Mi has asked him, how to keep it cool, like nothing happened between them, YeoRum answered, actually he is not cool, he just act like one. YeoRum likes JangMi. But, he admit that Gi Tae deserves Jang Mi better. As Se Ah, I think, her transition happened when Gi Tae force her to leave with him at the end of episode She realized that forcing the relationship will just make her become more pathetic.
I still remember clearly what he did to JangMi. Exactly what I was trying to point out. Thank you. The line where she said she would become pathetic. Good re-enforcing point on YR too. He was always a coward actually stated in the showbut it's clear that his model of women is not that stable. He chose someone like his mother who is far more assertive than Jang Mi ever was.
Mar 13, THE SHORT VERDICT: Wacky fun with a lot of heart. Marriage Not Dating's strength is really in its execution and its primary cast's committed performances. Han Groo and Yeon Woo Jin both turn in heartfelt performances while being fully committed to The Funny, and the result is cracktastic, laugh-out-loud hilarity with an inner core of. I think this is one of those dramas where you sit back and say "Wow, so this is also a way a Korean Drama can be made". I mean, don't get me wrong, there were some kdrama cliches in Marriage Not Dating but nothing was overbearing. In fact, I loved those cliches too. And it was an extremely refreshing romantic-comedy/ Anticipate Marriage, Marriage Over Love, Marriage Without Dating, Marriage Without Love Volunteer Team Marriage, Not Dating Volunteer Team Broadcast Network tvN Broadcast Period to Rating PG Korea Romantic Comedy Korean Drama Idol Drama/10(K).
He's kinda an M Japanese definition of one. It's just at the time you saw it, you thought it was because he was being a jerk and burning JM, but then over the course of the show, they pulled a few things that made it clear he's really a puppy in disguise.
The first was the reversal. When JM became more assertive, he liked that and was attracted to her more. The second is Hyeon Hee acting all soft and then turning around and acting much like his mother.
It's clear on some level what he didn't have with JM was what he wanted-an assertive woman who chased after what she wanted. So this clearly showed the reason he ran away from JM was because he's a coward and he didn't want to tell her that he never really liked her that much because he hadn't discovered his type was a reflection of his mother, and he's a coward through and through.
But lit professors when they talk about Korean lit, seem to treasure and highlight that the most about Korean lit. Also the long separation Thanks for recap. Very sad coz this show is going to finish. My forever otp ever I'm sooo happy with this show Kitae and Jang Mi are so good for each. YWJ and HG did justice to their roles. Two more episodes left I'm so excited for that.
I'm hoping there would be a grand proposal scene. I'm totally in love with the leads. I couldn't care less about Se-ah and Yeo-reum though. But good god, Ki-tae and Jang-mi own me, through and through. I am just sooooo happy about all these developments. I adore the lead couple! Fist pumps!!! No truly bad gay is here. Both lend him money and help him when he was out in the street.
SA finally realice that she cant do as she pleases with GT. Chef and exJM boss will be together as well No one's an evil doer, except for Gi Tae's dad.
He has no excuse, none at all. The biggest douche bag in my book at the moment That a wife is for family and sociaty. It's dead grong, but GT Mo allowed to happend, as long he mainteain appearences. In that sence both are guilty.
To me the inexcusable thing was left a 5 years old girl alone by her parents. That almost caused JM dead. That doesn't have a place in Korean society today by a long, long shot. It's outdated by a long long time. In fact, the Korean government until recently had it so you could get jail time and even a fine on top in some cases for adultery. And Koreans didn't go through the Victorian era The way of thinking in Confucian society did allow for concubines, in effect Which is how you got the middle classhowever, hiding mistresses, not taking care of the resulting children, etc was frowned on highly.
Also hiding them from your wife is a double no-no. So on any level or from any era minus the protection bits that obviously had to happenhe's wayyyy out of line and if he was caught in Joseon, he'd probably be flogged seriously. And somehow, for a fictional character, I think watching him get beaten for his indiscretions and cavalier attitude might just be satisfying to me. I think I would like the slow smile on GT's mom's face as she watched, but pretended to care given his messed up attitude towards her.
I've made no secret of my love for Yeo Reum. So much for his brilliant plan to win her back. But how cute were Jang Mi and Ki Tae in this episode? Trying soooo hard to be laid back, and yet Also, 'let's keep our dating secret', but making sure all of their friends know - plus, let's publish it in a magazine.
I'm surprised Ki Tae didn't post a billboard. What I really loved, though, were the scenes where both of them realized that their parents could only serve as examples of what to avoid in marriage, and that they would have to deliberately choose to avoid falling into that trap.
Yay, adult choices!!! I'm another Yeo-reum fan right here! I was a bit disappointed with his moment of selfishness in front of Ki-tae's mom I didn't like that the first time he really actively fights for Jang-mi he does it in such a hurtful way, not only to Jang-mi but to Ki-tae and his mom.
I've forgiven the character because his actions since have gone back to the cool, easy-going person I like so much and he seems remorseful enough to help the couple away from their stupidity. My only complaint is that I wish they had left him with a suitable female character so that all the Yeo-reum fans out there can dream of him getting with her in the future and also finding his own happiness.
After being such a good sport about Jang-mi and Ki-tae he deserves it! I love how our OTP wanted the cool relationship which quickly turned into a cold relationship. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way how to truly go for each other. Can't Gi Tae's mom just divorce Gi Tae's dad on the grounds of adultery? I don't understand why she's waiting for Gi Tae's dad to divorce her it's clear that he never will. Not too sure about Korea's laws, but here in the US, she's clearly within her rights to initiate divorce proceedings.
It does state she can do it on adultery grounds, but I think given her standing, it would be better for her to save face by him agreeing to the divorce as well, because adultery needs to be proven, etc.
JM can help with that! Which means she has to prove he's been sleeping with the woman he's been seeing. It might also be the best interest of her as well, for financial reasons, since she does not control the funds. A mutual divorce agreement would ensure her some money over forcing it.
Thanks for clarifying this. As for proof, that should be fairly easy, all she needs to do is hire a Private Investigator, I am sure there are some who specialize in these sort of things.
She limps over to Ki-tae wearing only one shoe, and says she wants to call the whole thing off. Ki-tae comes back and watches them with a long face. What a fun opening, full of surprising twists and turns, genuinely interesting characters, and a lightness that feels like a breath of fresh air. And she does crazy eyes so well. She takes nothing lying down, and speaks her mind with a sharpness that always leaves me satisfied and in her corner rather than feeling sorry for her, no matter how embarrassed she might have been at the outset.
And part of that is in keeping him from being too sympathetic, which is what I like about the writing. So a normal guy. Your email address will not be published. Thanks for the recap.
Can't wait until you catch up to episode 5! Just finished episode five, I am also glad it is now being recapped. When I started it I really wasn't expecting much, and was so surprised how much I enjoyed it. Love the chemistry between the leads, Han groo is really funny, only other thing I have seen her in that I can recalled was scandal and I am glad she has gotten a leading role.
Tvn really churns out some surprising dramas, this and high school king of savvy has become my favourites of the week. I can't believe you guys are recapping this! What a treat! Thank youuuu! You should check out "Killer K" from a few years ago. Han Groo is awesome, but in a totally different, Tarantino heroine kind of way. She was really underused in "Scandal," but it seems like this show's gonna be her new "Leading Lady" break out roll.
Me too! I kept checking Dramabeans several times a day hoping this would get recapped. I'd almost given up. I'd even resorted to leaving notes in other threads "hinting" if this could be recapped.
Had no one to talk to about how awesome this drama is so thank you thank you thank you girlfriday and lollypip. Lol i wanted to do the same for koalas playground.
She keeps talking about a good rom com and I'm like hello? Everyone needs to check out this show. I died laughing at the end of episode 5. They're cold openings are so well done and not cliched lie most dramas. Thanks for recapping! Now i get to to share the love. Me, too. Thank you for recapping! I've been completely in love with this show since day 1. I hope it get's a lot of love. It has been a while since I watched a drama all over again like times in a week while waiting for the next episode to come.
Thanks for covering this show! I watched the first two episodes on a whim, and was surprised by how fun and charming it is! My current entertainment too - Fated To Love you and this one Marriage Without Dating I stumbled upon entirely by accident, because the captivating offerings out there were so dismal. Have yet to pick up High Sch King of Savvy the title put me off but will soon - seems an enjoyable ride for me. My current entertainment too - Fated To Love you and this one Marriage Without Dating I stumbled upon entirely by accident, because the offerings out there were so dismal.
Have yet to pick up High Sch King of Savvy the title put me off but will soon - seems like an enjoyable ride. I must've replayed that scene so much - you know where she's banging on the bathroom door with the beer bottle, and she's raging to come face to face with her jerk ex.
Then, when the door finally opens My heart breaks as I watch her eyes Thank you girlfriday and LollyPip for agreeing to taking this show on : I was on the fence at first about the show and wanted to see what others were thinking. Thankfully I watched until ep and realized that although the heroine is a clingy, stalking mess I couldn't help but root for her.
She likes the 2nd? She doesn't try to change him and just accepts him as he is. When she gets knocked down she just feels sad then bounces right back I love it! I am so happy that it's being recapped here!!
Such a refreshing show and it's absolutely hilarious. I think in addition to the witty banter and great comedy, the music choices have all been so awesome and just make each scene that much more hilarious and epic feeling lmao.
I totally agree that the music pieces bring up the lightness and freshness of the show I find Han Groo an amazing actress. I've not watched any of her other shows, but I might do so.
She is a young actress with great potential to continue to be the lead. Fantastic writing and directing too. I really enjoy this show for the insanity it is. Jang-mi is a wonderful character that you can't help but root for. Yeah, I cringed a lot at her stalker-tendencies, but at the same time, there is such a realness to her that I can't be bothered too much by her flaws.
She's so full of gusto and good intentions. She's just great. I love the banter between her and Ki-tae, who is also a great character in his own right. I find his honesty however brutal refreshing since it's rare for male characters to be that way in many dramas.
He's got his assy flaws, but like Jang-mi, he has that realness as well. I'm anxiously waiting for the moment they fall in love! I agree about KiTae's honesty. I mean, he definitely could use some tact but a lot of the things he says to JangMi, she really needs to hear. And the same goes for her calling him out on some of the things he does. It's nice to see a show actually acknowledging when people overstep their boundaries and not just ignoring it or treating it like cute or endearing behavior.
Thank you so much for the recap. I'm loving this show because the characters are so fun to watch. Gi Tae's actions may be embarassing but her sincerity is believable and heartbreaking that you'll end up rooting for her. And her spunkiness makes her loveable.
Already finished the first 4 episodes and the chemistry between Gi Tae and Jang Mi is just sizzling hot. And Yeo Reum just has this winsome smile that makes you melt. Thank you so much girlfriday and LollyPip for recapping this drama.
I just love it so much. The way that the characters interact is just so cute and enjoyable, it really makes my day. In fact, I'm re-watching the first four episodes. I really can't get enough. To think that I already had enough list of other dramas waiting to be watched but this show just that addictive. I just had to rewatch them again while killing the time to wait for another whole week. Thanks for recapping I love this show!!
I'm glad Girlfriday and LollyPip are recapping this show.
MND is adorable and hilarious, a total riot and a keeper. I've been wanting a place where I can comment and share my appreciation for the show and here it is.
Ask and ye shall receive. So, thank you thank you! I've been hoping that there would be recaps of this show! It's definitely one of my favorite shows right now! I love the humor and romance, and its one of the shows I anxiously wait for every week. Thanks so much for picking it up girlfriday! She's great at doing comedy too.
One of my faves of the summer. So funny and I love the cast. Every episode gets sillier and more hilarious. Thanks for recapping this one. TvN can do no wrong when it comes to rom-coms lately. I am a little late to the party but I thoroughly enjoyed marathoning the first few episodes.
Han Groo is such a hoot and she has some of the best crazy-eyes I have seen in Kdrama heroines. Yeon Woo Jin or as I call him "Korea's Seth Macfarlane", well I think he kinda looks like him doesn't seem like your typical jerk hero, he's just trying to hang on to that bachelor life. Jin Woon is trouble with a capital T. Any guy who knows he's good looking and has no qualms flaunting it is always trouble. He almost immediately reminded me of Leonardo Dicaprio and then I suddenly saw so many Viki commenters remarking the same thing.
I think it's the eyes and head shape. Thank you so much!!! I figured with all the shows you guys were recapping this would be impossible! I'm so grateful because I'm loving the show as well : It's so funny!
And both the leads are awesome! I love the pattern of the episodes, where they begin with an incident, and then backtrack to show us how they got there. Not to mention, it ensures that something dramatic has to happen each episode, which is fun. Oh my goodness what an expected surprise. Thank you thank you. This is wonderful.
I really want this recap so that you guys can catch the nuances which I usually don't get. Thank you so much for this. I am really enjoying this drama it's got some solid acting. And the comedy is so spot on. Oh my, I never knew that I could laugh like that, watching a drama. I was cracking up watching ep. Love this drama. Love the directing, acting and everything.
Han groo looks like yoon eun hye here. Thou both of them have their own charm. Well done! This show is such a mix of real people acting like real people in real situations, I have to wonder where has this writer been? Each episode seems to uncover more layers of each person, they are not just static robots playing roles that never change.
Every episode the mom gets revealed more and more, and with each episode she seems more vulnerable. I highly suspect that mom does not really dislike JM - she is jealous how JM can be so free wheeling while she keeps everything bottled up for appearances sake. The writer Joo Hwa Mi, has a few other credits to her name. Thanks for the info. Thank you for the info! I've been meaning to check out Hope For Dating for awhile so now that I know the writer is the same person, I'm definitely going to move it up on my to watch list.
From the next episode you'll find it the reason behind it is his father. I hate him Poor Gi tae. Thank you girlfriday and Lollypip! So happy you're both recapping this now. It's a gem of a show and I just love to hear your thoughts on it!
Can't wait till you catch up! I am loving this show its my current addiction and cannot wait for friday and Saturday night just for this show.
I watched the first two episodes when I was really tired and had trouble following the sequence of events, and the logic behind. You saved me a lot of time and head scratching!
So far I love the acting and the chemistry between the couples or would-be couples. I love this show. I love the cast and really like Jang-mi a lot.
I don't get the criticisms about her. Plus the chemistry of the leads! I don't see the complaints about the lack of chemistry either. Anyway, my biggest shock was Sun-hwa. I've watched her since Invincible Youth so she'll always be Blank Sunhwa to me, but she's surprisingly good as Se-ah and she looks better now than before maybe due to maturity partly, and some tweaks from surgery too.
We have the same schedule.
Tried Trot Lovers but after the last episode, I have to let that go. I'll watch It's Okay, It's Love and see if it's any good. My week is fully booked with rom coms and I'm in heaven. I really hope that this drama continues being awesome because I just love seeing our leads banter. So cute! I agree about SunHwa. Not only have I struggled through the long drought of dull and mediocre shows for weeks, but then I get slammed with two of the greatest shows yet - this and Fated to Love You.
What is really interesting to me is that the lead girl in each drama are so different from each other, yet both are totally lovable and easy to relate to. If nothing else, they would upset a lot of the old school ajumas watching. I totally agree!
Marriage+not+dating+02+vostfr, interracial dating abc income, medical student dating consultant, hiv dating site gauteng Check out these seven must-see tips for no strings fun. Instantly up your sex appeal and juggle multiple casual sex partners with ease/ Jul 19, Marriage Not Dating: Episodes by girlfriday. Now that my recap slate has freed up, I can finally turn my attention to something new. Marriage Not Dating is the newest Friday-Saturday offering from tvN, and I've been enjoying it immensely for its witty banter, laugh-out-loud humor, and its refreshing take on romance. Not to mention that there's a hilarious contract relationship in the /5. Aug 18, Marriage Not Dating: Episode 14 by LollyPip. It's an episode full of frustration for poor Ki-tae, both emotionally and physically, as he learns about life as the boyfriend of a successful entrepreneur. He and Jang-mi both learn a little about how important it is to communicate honestly, and I can only say thank goodness, it's about time/5.
I saw the epic typhoon evasion yesterday and can't imagine the quirky Jangmi anywhere else but cable network xD. Thank you for recapping. The news about this show failed to impress me even though I do like both leads Thank you Show. Kim Hae-sook is awesome in everything, isn't she? Kim Hae-sook in IN everything, too. I wonder how much time she spends going between shoots. I guess if all of these actors were stuck in 7 season shows as the same character like US TV, it would get boring.
It must be better to be able to try on different personas every few months. Finally, someone's recapping this!
I like the show so I want to spill out my feels. I've seen it until ep 5 and it's starting to tick me off. I just feel like there are so many characters and they're confusing me. I love Yeon Woojin so I'll probably stick to it hoping that things will be better. Plus you guys are recapping it! I think I get you.
Probably because up until now the center focus of the show has been really towards the main leads. Though I really love their approaches onto the conflicts and hijinks of those two, I couldn't help but feel hanging around about the other roles' motives or something.
Anyway, up until now I still love the execution so hoping they could maintain or even surprise us on next episodes. I'm so happy you are recapping this. I knew there were things I missed like thiswon bid So far I watch mainly for the comedy. It really makes me laugh loud The visit at the parents Is this a friendship? Yes, a couple of episodes later it seems to me that they know each other well and are sort of playing each other like showing Hoon Dong how douchy he is, or that Yeo Reum and Hoon Dong don't believe Ki Tae's dating.
Still, there is also Jangmi Oh My Freakin' God, I am so happy that you are recapping this drama because it's just so freakin' good that I thought it was such a shame that no one is talking about it. So, I ended up recommanding it to every site I know XD.
They are just so hot, cute, adorable, hot, cute and adorable together lol. Han Groo and Yeon Woo Jin have such a great chemistry together. And they are portraying their characters so well. Like really, those roles were meant to be acted by them. I really thought it was going to be the usual romcom storyline with contract marriage but no, it's so refreshing.
It takes the formula but plays it with such wits. I'm enjoying this show so much! Can't wait for the next batch of episodes.
Your comments are exactly how I felt while watching this show. Crossing my fingers that it gets better and better! Just checked out the first ep. Yeon Woo-jin is so charming. I do like that his character isn't the typical drama jerk. Not bad. Because of Yeon Woo-jin, I will continue to watch this one. I like Jinwoon, but his character smiles too much for me.
It's all very curious. Han Groo is the bomb diggity, and I am enjoying her acting immensely.
I also love me some Yeon woo-jin. I can feel the love starting to develop slowly but surely. I think it was most evident with their "date", with Jang mi smelling the flower and smiling, and Gi tae looking at the pictures The scene where they both tried to get popcorn at the same time was cute too :D. His constant smiling grates on my nerves and takes me out of everything.
He just seems like a pretty boy actor trying to come off as handsome on screen instead of an actual person. You're not the only one, haha!! I want to slap him every time he does anything bad to Jang Mi and appears with this silly smile in his face. But the show is so fun and addicting, I can forgive this smile issue I thought the same about the second lead character. He does smile alot that it kind of annoys me. Hope his character isn't going to be like that throughout the entire 16eps!
Not that i want him to end up with Jang Mi no matter how good looking or charming he is. Can't wait for the next eps. I knew Han Groo was going to be amazing and I'm happy she's finally getting a chance to shine.
